About Us
Independent Limestone
Company was founded in 1927, southwest of Bloomington, IN. Since that
date, it has fully operated as a limestone quarry, which manufactures and markets limestone for buildings and other purposes. We have
become one of the leading quarries in Indiana. Central Indiana has
been called the limestone capital of the United States, and
Bloomington (Monroe County) is the middle of Hoosierland's famed
Limestone Belt.
Throughout the history of Independent Limestone Company we have provided
limestone for many historical buildings. In addition to others, we
have provided limestone for:
•
the Pentagon Phoenix Project
in Washington,
DC;
•
the Empire State
Building in New York;
• the IU School of
Music in Bloomington, IN;
• the
Washington
Cathedral in Washington, DC;
• the Scottish Rite
Cathedral in Indianapolis, IN;
• the Yale
University Graduate School, New
Haven, Conn.; and
• the Peoples Bank
and Trust in Chicago, IL. Limestone from Independent Limestone has been used in these
significant projects plus countless banks, universities, churches,
hospitals, and distinguished landmarks across the United States and
Canada. The renovation project for the Pentagon from the terrorist
attack on 9/11/01, has been by far the most meaningful. We are very
proud to have provided limestone for the rebuilding project known as
the Phoenix Project. Approximately 18,000 cubic feet of variegated
clear limestone was supplied. It is an honor to have Indiana limestone
from our quarry on this prominent building.
In March 2005, our newly constructed mill was completed. Our limestone
is ideal for exterior as well as interior uses. Our fully equipped
mill will be able to fabricate specialty needs on a custom order basis.
Regular customers, both cut stone fabricators and architects, know that when
they place an order they will consistently get the highest quality limestone for their building projects from our quarry.
We are members of the Indiana Limestone Institute. |
